Clapham Junction - Embankment Works
- Emergency Escape Stairs
Network Rail identified a requirement to provide an
Emergency Escape Stair to Platform 17 of Clapham Junction
Station. Due to site limitations only one viable route was
identified down an existing embankment which was providing
support to operational permanent way. Deltaline Design
developed and specified a full temporary and final works
solution including the installation of two sacrificial
pre-fabricated trench box caissons installed during traffic
hours providing full support to the adjacent operational
permanent way. Following installation of the trench box system
a reinforced concrete retaining wall and stair structure was
detailed and installed. Both the temporary and Permanent works
were installed as detailed to programme without complications
or amendment.
